Llanarth Court Hospital – Replacement Ward

Please note, this consultation page is now closed and for reference only.

Background

Priory Group Limited (the Applicant) intend to apply for planning permission to replace a fire-damaged building (known as the former ‘Treowen Building’) at Llanarth Court Hospital. The former Treowen Building, which previously accommodated a 19-bed mental health ward, was subject to fire damage in April 2020 and has recently been demolished as a result.

The Applicant intends to replace the building and proposes to apply to Monmouthshire County Council for full planning permission for the following development:

“Construction of replacement building (total floorspace 2,032sqm) at Llanarth Court Hospital (on the site of the former Treowen Building) to accommodate 2×12-bed medium-security wards (total 24-beds) including accompanying day/recreational space, operational accommodation and staff facilities; construction of enclosed secure garden areas and associated external fencing; and all associated ancillary works”.

The replacement building will accommodate two 12-bed wards (resulting in an increase in capacity of 5 beds). The proposals require an increase in floorspace of 605 sqm to accommodate a hospital building which is capable of meeting current/up-to-date operational requirements and standards.
